I Walk in Beauty
The natural world touches my heart and soul more deeply than words can express.
So, when the time came to "finalize" the look of my blog, I knew that it must transmit the beauty of this world—as well as all the peace and joy its energy can bring us.
Thanks to a dear friend, my blog now has such a look. And though she desires to remain anonymous, this oh, so generous craftswoman must be thanked publicly for her gift. 'Tis true, she gifted me with the lovely, new banner you see above.
Over the last two months, we've worked together to create a visual expression of my highest hope for myself and others. Here are a few words of explanation:
First, calm. Symbolized by water. A limpid, yet refreshing pool of blue that invites us to let go, breathe, and be well. In a world characterized by static energy, often crescendoing into chaos, how important it us for us to find pockets of peace.
Next, clarity. When we are able to access a sense of calm, the world, both within and outside of ourselves, can be perceived in new ways. Emotions ease, thoughts wind down, and clear-seeing vision is ours. Spiritual practices, gently honed, symbolized here by a woman in "prayer," bring us home to our truest selves.
Finally, compassion. When we are calm and clear, wisdom rises up. Our inner knowing takes over and we lean into greater understanding of our journeys, of others. Our heart naturally breaks open and compassion takes up residence. We convey the Love we are sourced in, symbolized here by a flower in full bloom.
My highest hope for you when you visit here is that you will "feel" more calm, clear, and wise. That you will find an oasis of understanding and acceptance. That you'll feel welcome and safe enough for your heart to break open and shatter into a million tiny pieces, knowing that it can be put back together with Love. The Love that is here ... Love that is unbidden all around you ... the Love that you are ... and the Love that you can be to others.
Now, I know that is a pretty tall order for a blog, but, truly this is my hope. Thanks to fairy godmother, JRS, thanks to her vision, grace, and the technological know how (which I absolutely lack), we are here. Thank you, my dearest heart, for making my wish come true!
What joy, that each time I visit this page now, I get to take a walk in beauty. And please know this, my friends:
My ambling here is made all the more lovely because I get to walk with YOU.
You make this walk vibrate with beauty by your soulful presence here. How bland the journey would be if we did not have one another to share our stories and learnings with!
Together may we continue to walk in the spirit of how the Navajo elders prayed:
With beauty, may I walk.
With beauty before me, may I walk.
With beauty behind me, may I walk.
With beauty above me, may I walk.
With beauty all around me, I walk.
As always, I welcome your thoughts ...

Walking is one of my very favorite things to do. I walk whenever and wherever I can, and always receive something from the walk, peace, answers, a pause, a connection, the list goes on. So it's nice to think now that when I visit here, we're all taking a walk together. I like that, and look forward to the journeys.
Beautiful post on every level! And that is EXACTLY how I feel when I do come to your blog. The transmission is there - visually and energetically.
Dear Jan,
a visit to your blog always gives me a new energy for the day with new perspectives.calm, clarity and compassion are what I need today and it is rightly described in this post.A beautiful prayer and I would love to walk along with you.
blessings

Joanne,
I know you do love walking, as do I. I have been a bit remiss of late and fully intend to get back in the swing of things now that warm weather is arriving this week. Isn't it wonderful how we receive answers or clarity, all kinds of gifts, when we walk? I like that YOU like that we are walking together here. Such a pleasure~
MM,
I am so glad to know this—that the "transmission" is being faithfully executed!
Sema,
Wonderful that you are buoyed when you visit here. I am always buoyed by your site as well. How grand to be able to walk together in this way!
Being able to walk in beauty is a real gift, and I think you have a beautiful, peaceful blog that truly reflects the kind, generous, compassionate woman I have come to know through your blog and our comments to each other. The header makes me feel very calm, and your words are aways filled with such warmth and compassion. It's always a pleasure to visit you and walk with you.
That's a beautiful banner. She is much too modest. And I agree with what everyone has said about your blog. It's a bright spot of calm and beauty in a crazy world.
Beautiful new look. I could totally see my attraction to it, because I am a part of it, a part of you. I will come here often to share your calm, clarity, and compassion. Let us all share together.
calm, clarity and compassion is definitely what I pick up here :)
walking and chatting with a friend is a lovely way to spend time, now if my husband tells me to get off the computer I can say "I'm doing my exercise!"
Angela,
What beautiful and kind thoughts! Thank you! It is such a blessing that we can all connect in this way. The blogosphere has provided great gift in us being able to share our journeys and walk together in this way, even though we may be continents apart.
Gayle,
Thanks for visiting! I agree that my dear friend is much too modest. I am in love with what she has created! I am so glad that you feel calm when you come here.
Mermaid,
And I am so glad we ARE sharing and connected here. How joyful it is to celebrate our Oneness in this way.
Kel,
Ha! What a fitting response to your husband, bless his heart. Yes, let's walk and ponder and savor together...
Beautiful, beautiful Jan. Immediately draws me into a quiet and reflective place.
The only element missing is the sound of water. Okay, I will look at the image in your header and imagine I hear the water dripping.
The "BLUE" reflects everything you wrote about. So calm & soothing...thanks for your words
Jan, this is such a beautiful place to visit and I am so happy right now because by some miracle I figured out how to subscribe to your feed- how to do this had been eluding me. Technically challenged, and grateful for your shared journey, Ingrid
I share your feelings here. One thing that I think is often missing from discussions of global warming and humanity's continued accelerating extermination of species and habitat is precisely the spiritual dimension - the fact that the beauty all around us that the Navajos so rightly valued is rapidly disappearing all around us and from the futures of our children and grandchildren.
The banner is very calming and pretty. I too walk in beauty and look (and find it every where I look). Encluding here, on your blog :-).
Cheryl,
Well, if I was savvy techno-wise, perhaps I could figure out how to have the soothing sounds of water here for you, too! Water is so wonderful...
Cherokeefox (Liz),
I appreciate that. I've always thought blue was calming. It is also the color for communication. :-) Put the two together and hopefully we have a winner!
Ingrid,
So glad you like it. I am happy to hear you figured out the feed. It does take time to learn the craft. I'm learning too, but sometimes you just have to turn it over to the experts. Thank you again, JRS!
Paul,
Oh, I so agree! The indigenous peoples of the world have so much to teach us about the Earth. Would that we could listen not just with our ears, but with our hearts, to make a most passionate effort.
Annie,
To walk in beauty on this amazing planet is such a gift. Glad you feel it too!
Jan, dear friend, your new look is breathtaking, and your spirit shines through it all. You do walk in beauty and you share it with all of your readers. I do always leave your blog with a sense of peace, wellbeing, clarity, and centeredness. Thank you for creating a blog oasis! xo
