It's Joy Rebel Day! The Pilgrimage Continues ...

Join our 30-Day Pilgrimage into Joy!
Day 31: We Throw Predictability to the Wind and Follow Where Our Heart Leads
I know that I said our "Pilgrimage into Joy" was going to be a 30-Day venture. Well, I've changed my mind. That's a girl's prerogative, right? And who can turn down a great party, anyway?
Think of it as one of those trip extensions you can add on to your Tour. Going to Rome? Stay one week longer and visit Florence and Assisi. That's what we're doing here. We'll be taking a little sidetrip and discovering some new Joy sites along the way.

For the next 8 days, Bella (Amy) at She Sleeps with Sea Glass, along with a number of
others, including the oh, so rebellious Brandi, are having a Joy blowout—a Joy Rebel Blog Party—and we're invited. You can join up by visiting the sites that are mentioned here.
Or, if you are feeling extra enthusaistic, you can jump in wholeheartedly and post on Joy at your own blog. If you do, be sure to contact Bella and let her know so that she can list your site on hers.
And be extra sure to read Bella's post for today because what she did yesterday to spread some Joy around was absolutely amazing, delightful, and inspiring. What I am going to do to buoy a little bliss seems paltry compared to her magnanimous gestures, but this is what works for me.

I love to spread Joy by writing letters to people.
When I put pen to paper—after having selected a very special card or piece of notepaper just for him or her—it feels like I am whoosing the recipient with Love ... sending angel kisses ... offering blessings of well-being and regard. Well, at least that's how it feels to me.
Letter writing, I believe, is fast becoming a lost art.
It is a soulful practice, something people have done for eons to connect, heart-to-heart. There is something just so special about receiving a handwritten letter, don't you agree? But when was the last time you received one?
Now, with our fast paced lives and computer/phone technology, letter writing has become a thing of the past. We zip out fast e-mails or pick up the phone to call when we want to connect— which is great, don't get me wrong. But, truthfully, I miss those handwritten envelopes in my mailbox. When I see someone's personal flourish upon paper, my heart simply sings. I feel like we are really plugged in, soul-to-soul.
I treasure the cards and letters I receive and keep them in a very special place. I come from a family of letter writers and I have in my possession the love letters that both sets of grandparents wrote to each other in the 1920s, one set penned during wartime from France. I have all my father's letters he wrote to his parents when he was in the Navy in WWII. I have all the cards my children ever gave me; the letters my daughter sent me from Iraq when she was stationed there as a Marine in 2002; the letters my husband and I sent to one another when we were "courting." True, many of these were e-mails, but I printed them out and now they rest safely in a special folder.
And I admit, I have drawers and bins full of stationary and cards and I have a paper fetish. Given a few extra dollars in my pocketbook, I will buy notecards. I can't help myself. I love to whoosh people with Love.
So today my Joy Party is on the quiet side, but that's just me. I'll be writing letters ...
What will you do to spread a little Joy today?
I'm eager to hear...

Yea me! LOL! I am so excited to read Cindy's book. The month of July is dedicated to my pilgrimage into myself. I think this book will be an asset to my journey. Thank you Jan and Cindy!
Hi Janice,
Just yesterday, I was pulling a book out of my briefcase, and out fell a card also. So, I picked it up - and it was this beautiful card (with hand-written note) I'd received from a friend a couple of months ago. And it's something I continue to hold onto. Because it does have special meaning. Because she took the time to get a meaningful card, and then add her own very wonderful sentiments to it - meant so much to me.
So, I think what you're doing is a wonderful thing! Every one who receives one of these special gifts from you will be so appreciative! It does mean a lot!
I'm in on the celebration today, as well. Goofy, is the angle I've went with so far. I acted like a mummy, at work, a little bit ago. Almost accidentally! But so fun!
My joy spreading today is going to be letting my kids have friends over. They love having friends here and I normally will not let them if their rooms are messy. Today they will not be forced to clean their rooms first. You should have seen the look on their faces. Pure Joy.
I like to make little notes and draw a little something on the front, inside I say something joyful and fun and then I tuck them in obvious places around town.
I do this a couple times a year and started doing it one Winter when I was depressed, it lifed me right up :-). I also like to include a dollar bill from time to time :-).
P.S. Just read Bella's post, she too puts the joy notes around, great minds think alike :-).
Well, this post of yours is Totally Weird In A Joy Rebel Wondferful Way!!
I write letters!!!!! And receive them, from pen-pals I've been writing to for 15 years, whee-hoo. I had slacked off a lot over the past year while working on my music but I sent 6 letters in the past 2 weeks, with my music CD.
In fact, and how additionallly weird is this -- my current blog post features my new letters-writing corner, with pictures. I have a collection of ridiculously goreous stationery from around the world.
Holy Cow! This Joy Rebel Day is just magically tingle-inducing.
Yay!
I'm big on handwritten notes & cards, as well. I think they're so much more meaningful and speak volumes about how important that person is in our life. I would love to have a dedicated writing desk with little drawers for stationary and an old inkwell. Something pretty that would add ceremony to the act of writing a card or a letter to someone.
Thank you for your caring words over at my place today. I'm just going to create as calm and healing a space for my little guys as I can, right now.
Hello Jan. What fun! I'm going to pop over to those other sites you mentioned in a minute.
But first, I'll tell you how I'm going to spread a little joy today: I'm sending my son off to a music festival with some friends - something which will make him very happy. Then while he's away, I'm preparing a meal for my husband, daughter and myself, full of all the healthy fish and veggies my son would never think of eating.
:0)
That's Joy x4!
Hugs,
Angela
Caroline, your book is in the mail today ... I do hope you'll enjoy it. Please drop me an e-mail and let me know what you think later on!
Jan, thanks so much for the month-long pilgrimage into joy. You've given us all so much to consider -- and to be grateful for. As the summer goes by, I want to take more time for joy, and to do that, I need to be still and appreciate the beauty around me.
Thanks again!
i love to sprinkle joy by way of encouragement... there is nothing more joyful than helping someone else open their eyes to themselves...
I like letter writting, too. What a marvelous way to share joy.
I celebrated joy today by being in a meeting and helping to facilitate solutions. It brings me such joy when people from diverse areas can come together, discuss options, and we can really get to solutions. What an amazing joy!
My grand daughter is sick with the flu - stuffy, runny nose and a cough. The only joy I had all morning was the scent of her hair and her warm body as I hugged and comforted her.
As she felt better after lunch and fell asleep, I settled down with chocolate swirl ice cream, heaped three scoops high on a gigantic slice of warm caramel cake. I was grateful for the 30, 40 or 60 minutes to celebrate Joy Rebel Day thinking there would be nothing more.
I was so wrong. The mail-lady slipped a wonderful essence of joy into my mailbox - a hand-written letter from my new pen pal who lives in Michigan.
So, tonight I'll be writing letters to her and another friend who is on her way back to Midland, from a family reunion in Colorado.
Then I'll be stopping by Amy's and Brandi's sites to join the party. Maybe I'll meet some of you guys there.
Love and joy you all.
This may sound small, but it makes a big difference. Today I made extra time to just be there with my kids in the kitchen. The tv was on, we were all talking at once and making food, and we just bantered and enjoyed each other. Oh yes, and we played with the puppy.
Sometimes the informal moments are sooo joyful.
And I am so grateful for them.
Great post. Thank you.
Hooorraaay for Joy Day #31!
I love that it's not ending at 30 days :-)
I think writing a letter is a great idea too. I know I love getting cards and letters in the mail!
Yesterday I sent a card with some pictures I took to a friend and today I sent a heart-felt Thank-you card to a friend. I felt just as much JOY in sending these.
Carolyn,
You will love the book and I am so happy to hear about YOUR new pilgrimage on your blog. I'll be watching and joining in.
Lance,
I am so happy that you're stopping in and sharing this great news on how this dear friend's letter touched you. Letters are special treasure. I loved the photo at your blog. You are celebrating joy in such a fun, uplifting way. Goofy is good!
Jill,
Oh, I like how you spread the joy in your family. The gift of Freedom!
Annie,
What a great idea-- Anonymous Joy! Very clever and oh, so touching... I'd like to find one of those notes. :-)
Jannie,
Ola fellow letter writer. I will check out your site and your letter corner. And you have a stationary fetish too. Oh, boy. I'd love to see your worldly collection!
Carolynn,
I like your idea of a very special writing desk for this very special act. It would just set the tone so perfectly. I can see you there now...
Angela,
Joyful, healthy eating. This sounds very good and right up my alley. Wish I could stop in and join you. You are just across the lake from me right?
Cindy,
You are so very welcome and I am thrilled you have been a key player in our Joy journey this month. Enjoy the 4th at the gorgeous work-in-progress house of yours.
Joanne,
You are marvelous at encouragement. Such a natural. I love the sprinkles of support you flourish over us, especially me. xxoo
Anon...
This is a wonderful way to spread the Joy--facilitate it at work! I am touched and impressed. Such a important skill...
Cheryl,
I am sorry to hear about sweet baby's sickness. Ugh. But your sweet dessert treat does sound like it made it all worthwhile. And then the letter from your special friend. An extra treat, sort of like whipped cream with a cherry. Enjoy!
Laura,
I love hearing about all your happy homey Joy with your kids. There is nothing better than that, truly! Family Joy Love...
Julie,
So you are a card/letter sender too. Wide open hearts beat alike! En-Joy the journey. Yes, it continues on in grace-filled ways.
Hi Jan!
It's interesting that you write about "the lost art of letter writing"! Because I feel the same way, I sought out a pen pal who was interested in exchanging not just emails, but snail mail letters. She lives in Great Britain (I'm in the US) & I just sent off my 1st letter to her this week! I'm looking forward to getting her response back - the excitement of opening the envelope & reading a long, newsy letter, & getting to know a new friend from somewhere I've never been! PURE JOY!
Susan
YAY for Joy Rebel Day and Week! I'm very excited about it and I hope to spread lots of joy this week and always. Great post about joy by the way. Really enjoyed reading it!
Susan,
I think Pen Pals are just great, even if we are no longer in high school. I have a couple, one in another country, and love the process. We learn so much about other ways of living in this way and gain new appreciation for people's life journeys. Enjoy!
PP,
Thanks for visiting. May Joy continue to enfold you in your life journey!
Oh, Jan,
I think that your joy day could never be described as paltry! I adore getting "snailies" in the mail! That's what my friends and I call hand written letters to each other because we send them via "snail mail" versus e-mail. I love to send them and receive them. I have a hat box filled to the rim with various cards, stationary and paper. I adore selecting what I'm going to send and adorning it with brightly colored writing, adding little hearts, dots and love.
Thank you for sharing your day with us and participating in the blog party! I love how it's a continuation on what you've already been celebrating for a month!
Your prescence on my blog makes me smile especially with your well written and happy comments.
I feel as though I've been a bit neglectful with the party as I was out of town for a few days playing ~
Smiles of Joy,
Bella
