A New Blog ...
If you are a woman on the path to awakening, I have something for you.
It's my new blog, "A Room of Her Own." And it's being officially launched today. Come on over! But not until you read this.
It's a woman only blog (sorry guys, don't leave yet, I'd like to explain...) where women "on the path" can join hearts and minds; share what we're learning about what it means to live an "awakened life" in a very busy, very challenging world. This blog is a passion fulfilled. Here's why:
In 1996, I joined up with my dear friend, Ellie, to create a women's center. The two of us were on the fast track to awakening and were looking for other women who were too. We lived in a small town in western Michigan (very conservative) and we were feeling quite alone.
Believe it or not, we had the boldness to put an ad in the local newspaper calling for "Wild Women" (based on the book of the same title by Autumn Stephens.) We invited any WW's to meet with us. We rented a small room on the top floor of an old Victorian house—a "room of our own"—a sacred space, where we could safely share our stories, learn, and grow together.
The appointed evening arrived and we wondered who would show up. Anybody? A few brave souls did, then a trickle more, then a river of women and, before we knew it, the room was full. There were not enough seats. We sat on the floor, crunched in tight, shoulder to shoulder, and just looked around the circle at one another.
I remember how silent we were, just looking into each other's eyes, then a sprinkle of nervous laughter. And soon big grins, belly laughs, and even tears because, on some level, we recognized one another. We knew each others' souls. We were home.
Ellie and I had found our circle of Wild Women and a beautiful, new journey had begun ...
The journey lasted for nearly three years and we named our center, "The Gathering Place."
We eventually had to move to a bigger site because our circle kept growing. We offered workshops and therapies and healing circles. We opened a small retail store. In that period of time we "serviced" over 1,000 women.
I miss that place. I miss being in a circle of women who speak from their hearts and who support one another—unconditionally!—as we strive to embody our truest selves.
So now there is "A Room of Her Own." This time it's not in a building, but on the internet. I need this place. I need community. I say this selfishly because I know that my greatest growth in life has occurred within a sacred circle of women and I am passionate about keeping that growth going. If you are too, will you join me? Join me in this room full of supportive sisters?
Guys, please don't feel left out. Women really do need to be together. As do men. We each need a safe place to explore "with our kind." And if there is a woman in your life who you think would benefit from a blog community like this, please send her over.
When I started this blog, Awake is Good, I intended it to be a women's blog. But it didn't turn out that way because very cool, conscious guys showed up to chat. So I honored that as it morphed into something just wonderful, and I want to keep it this way.
So, enough said. Ladies come on over and say hi. My first post is up. I can't wait to hear your response.
Love and Blessings to all of you,
Jan

Count me in, my friend! I love this idea, and I loved reading about the sacred space you created for other kindred spirits. Can't wait to see this new blog. Love the title, too.
Sorry I have been out of touch here. September has been a whirlwind of excitement, from being cast as an extra in a film to starting new writing workshops ... I have missed visiting your oasis!
Congratulations Jan!
May us wild women unite! So excited about this new venture Jan!
I like the sound of "Wild Women" - it sounds so primal and back-to-basics. I'll see you over there!
Hi Jan,
I posted a comment over at the new site but I also wanted to leave one here and say again: Congratulations!
I love the concept behind the new blog and look forward to taking part.

now, I'm off to explore your new blog . . .
Jan, wishing you all the best in this new endeavor ~ a new place to blossom and grow.
It sounds exciting. Another place to sit down and visit. We all need a comfortable, safe, nurturing place where we can let our hair down, take our shoes off and sit, relax, share and learn. Congratulations. Love and Light, Nina P
I'm also very excited about this and am heading over. I love the image Cindy used in her post: "your oasis." Yes, this blog has been an oasis for me and I look forward to the new community you are beginning at Awakened Living. Thank you.

Well, I'll mosey on over and check it out. I definitely qualify as "wild woman", as do all my best friends!
You still going to keep this blog going, Jan?
All the best in your ventures, which all sound exciting.
Hi Jan,
What a great idea! Have you been watching the National Park Series on PBS (can't remember if you said you don't watch TV). Not only is the scenery fantastic, but the stories of how so many people have fought to preserve them are fascinating and inspiring. I think I've only been to one, but I want to see them all!
Hillary,
Be well! Breathe....Always here when you find time to return!
Laura,
I am keepin' on here. Of course, love this space and fostering more spaciousness!...
Gayle,
I have no tv but am watching snippets when and where I can. This series is stunning! I am waiting for it to come out on DVD (hopefully!). One of my fondest dreams is to take a year and live in an RV, traveling throughout the West to the national parks. Heaven!
I loved the name awake is good. It's why I stopped by, but now I want to go check out your new one.

Jan - Although I am new to this space and to you, I find myself feeling so nurtured and "at home" here. I'll be over to check out the new Room. I really yearn for that sense of community with like-minded souls. I've often felt alone (although never lonely) and, for years, even tried to deny who I was in order to fit in with others. Now, I embrace my sense of woo-woo and am so happy; I find that others are more accepting at this age than when I was younger, too. I'm looking forward to joining this new community. Thanks, Jan!
Wonderful news, Jan! Congratulations!
