Meditation Monday - The Spark Within
The Divine encourages us to begin the journey inward.
This is a most daunting task because for too long we have been taught that the answers we seek are outside of ourselves—with this teacher, that seminar, those books.
To believe that all the answers we search for so painstakingly are found inside of us seems a ridiculous notion, for what could WE possibly know? We are ordinary people struggling with Universal Truths. Surely, the solution to our dis-ease is out there somewhere!
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Within each of us is a small, divine spark, a glimmer of God itself. By spending time with and nurturing this glint of divinity—our spirit— we come into greater contact with the Transcendent, deepening our relationship, creating communion.
Through an inner journey, we can come to know ourselves within a sacred framework, and, in so doing, experience firsthand the presence of our Source.**
On this Meditation Monday, take a few moments to reflect upon your divine connection.
~Close your eyes, take three calming, cleansing breaths and move your attention inward.
~Visualize, if you can, this sacred spark of your being burning brightly within you.
~Watch it glow. Feel its warmth—calming you, centering you, reminding you that the greater Spirit (God) dwells within you.
~Trust, that all you need to know, have, and be is right here, right now, contained within this sacred spark. You need not search anymore.
May your day be blessed. May you live with ease knowing all is always well.
Now, does your heart have anything to say?

This is so beautiful Jan...and true! So often we look outside for help when most of the answers are right here...within. I also wanted to let you know that I am "committing to sitting." After the January challenge I think I may have sat and meditated 1 or 2 times! GAH! And could I ever feel the difference. Feb was one weird month. So I am going to sit quietly everyday (or try to at least). Hope all is well! xoxo
Hi Jan! For once I did break away from comments and follow your meditation prompt - SO glad I did! What a peaceful grounding. I've been so caught up in the whole food research I've been blogging about to help people see what is going on with our food, that I've not "connected" to source lately. This was a blessing indeed - much needed! Warm hugs of thanks!

Caroline,
Such great news! Congrats on your commit to re-sit. I visited your blog and love the icon for meditation you've created there. So lovely. Inspires all of us to let go a bit each day...
SuZen,
So glad to know that you stopped and let go. I do believe this meditation can be quite grounding because it plants us back in the body. And most of us are "out of body" - out there somewhere with such busy minds. It's good to come Home. Perhaps a little bit each day?
another syncrhonicity this morning
i was flicking through my contemporary book of hours, the time of day which beckoned to me was dusk
while contemplating that time and the gifts it holds I had penned in my book the words "refresh and renew that special spark inside me"
now I sit here and read your words about divine sparks, glimmers of God, and creating communion
I graterfully receive this confirmation that making time for these things is important
YOU kNoW this resonates for me dear one! Beautiful reminder of the deep seated teacher/healer as near as our very next breath.
Thanks for stopping by earlier, for your always compassionate and wise words and for passing that mp3 on to your directee...
gentle steps,
Laura
When I can completely quiet my mind in meditation, I can feel a Divine spark, I have actually felt a warmth in my chest area during deep meditation.
You're right, Jan, the more time I spend nurturing the divine spirit within, the closer the relationship becomes. Then when I do read a book or go to a retreat etc. and someone else is talking about their experiences, I can relate because I am experiencing a very similiar communion.
Nobody can experience my truest self and my relationship with my Divine Source but me. It's a work in progress but it is so worth it!

Jan,
This is off topic, but I finished "Crossing to Avalon" this weekend. It gave me so much to think about and explore, and I would so love to visit all of those sacred places. Thanks for recommending it.
Gayle
It's Tuesday so I'm a day late to your blog but not with my quiet time and meditation! I'm blessed to know this at soul level.
Thanks for the comment you left yesterday about Anne Frank. You said it all and better than me;) Happy Florida sun today!
This post is music to my ears. For months I have been fighting the urge to go back to school. That is my answer when nothing else looks like it's coming together. Key words: looks like. This time I am learning to look within, building from the inside out. This way is harder than taking a full course load of graduate level classes, which is what I was afraid of. The difference is this time I'm sticking with "me" and staying out of the classroom, at least until I know myself better.
Jan, I love so much of what you write about, as you have a wise, gentle energy about you. This, though, has to be my favorite meditation yet.
I've been touching that internal God-spark more and more lately, and my goodness, it feels so right, and so good.
Love & joy to you!
Kel,
Lovely story of divine synchronicity. I am continually amazed that we get what we need. May your inner spark be burning brightly today. :-)
Laura,
Love your phrase...the deep-seated healer within. What a perfect thought. May each of us access this "place" of breath and well-being more often...
Julie,
A beautiful accounting of this process. To feel the warmth of the Spark - a precious thing. May all you do continue to fan the flames of Spirit Presence within you.
Gayle,
Very good news! I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the book. I read it again a few months ago and it caused that same longing within me of which you speak...to journey to some of those sacred sites and be filled. :-) Journey on with joy.
Tess,
I affirm your spark! I so appreciate your faithfulness to your inner journey, more than you know. :-) Be well.
Sharon,
Such wise words here! The inner classroom may be just what you need right now, eh? Yes, the wisdom is within. So many of us are deeply habituated to search. If we could just settle down long enough (and comfortably) inside ourselves we'd find a treasure trove there...Enjoy this journey.
Megan,
Oh, I am so glad this one touched you. May your Spark continue to burn brightly and warm your days and nights. You inspire...
Ah, the ego will have us believe it takes striving and seeking and knowledge and spirituality....when it is simply deep inside, here and now.
Beautiful post, thanks.

Now why is it that you and I are often saying the same thing?:)
Your years of experience have served you well, Jan. It really shows.
A vision of warm ocean waves flowing through me often helps, but I think I will also try the spark!
Thank you! I so very much needed this today. my heart say a resounding yes, yes, yes...the answers are always within, the Divine is right there with amazing love and all I "need". and if I can't feel it, see it, access it, I just need quiet and time in nature to allow for it to "speak". When I can feel it, see it, access it, it is mine to share the abundance with great joy.
What a powerful post, Jan. "We already have the answers" - it's so easy to forget that - thank you!
Thanks for this Jan -- I've always found it valuable when teachers remind me that the most important guru is the gurudev, or the inner guru, and the job of an "outer guru" is just to help me listen to the inner one.
Kaushik,
I appreciate how you remind us that the ego is a wily culprit who convinces of us so many things. :-) Including, 'Keep looking! What you know or are doing is not good enough. You need more, or something different.' Ah, may we let that voice rest...
Mermaid,
The waves of the ocean are beautiful images to work with. They convey such ease.
Joy,
I enjoyed reading how you "listen" and determine if you are in sync with the voice of inner wisdom and what you actually do to align yourself with it. Bravo!
Rochelle,
Yes, we do forget. We all need reminding. This being fully human is such an interesting, amnesiatic thing. :-)
Chris,
Wonderful how you explain this. "Gurudev," love the notion. It rings so true for me too. Thank you for sharing...
Jan, I love these lines of encouragement:
~Trust, that all you need to know, have, and be is right here, right now, contained within this sacred spark. You need not search anymore.
Through an inner journey, we can come to know ourselves within a sacred framework. The Divine encourages us to begin the journey inward.~
so beautiful!
I feel as though the new season of soul is one of self-nourishment. I am certainly going inward and exploring so much! It is calming though it wasn't always this way. It feels great to be centered!
Today I learned one of the greatest values, I totally missed it all this time... and now I can see why there was a big void. I forgot to value myself. I can see how this is to do with the next journey of nourishing self and returning to Spirit completely.
thank you for this lovely post!
~Sharmila
