Spiritual Fun
Okay, so when was the last time you really had fun in terms of your spiritual journey?
Gone on a spiritual adventure? A pilgrimage?
It is so easy to take ourselves and our spiritual journeys very seriously. I know that I often do. The spiritual journey can begin to feel like "work," as if it is a 9-5 job we must excel at.
Where's the joy, the laughter, the "oh, this is so cool!" attitude when it comes to our spiritual lives?
Today, I'd like to invite you to share a really outstanding time/experience of "spiritual fun."
I'm eager to hear!
And I'll post mine in the comments section ....

One of the most wonderful spiritual adventures I had was creating a series of pilgrimages visiting the Spanish Missions in California. I traveled with my sister and each season we would visit a new Mission, take in all the history—ok, and stop at plenty of wineries along the way. :-)
Though I no longer imbibe, these road trips were really fun and felt quite adventurous to me. (Granted my idea of adventure might be quite dull to some...) I'm not a dangle off the edge sort of gal. (wink)
One of my favorite spiritual experiences was my trips to the river this summer. I would find a shallow spot, stare at the rocks and trees and immerse myself in the healing energy of the setting.
I love going to Ocean Beach in San Francisco where I grew up. Overlooking the vast ocean as waves roll in, I feel the healing powers of water.
No one tells me what practice I need to try, how to breathe, what to read. I just listen and intuit what I need to know from the waves.
Some of my most memorable spiritual adventures were spent with friends at the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and the Yoga and Jewish Spirituality Institute singing, dancing and praying with our whole hearts. The harmonies of our voices and the rhythmic movement of our bodies felt at one with each other and with the ONE of all being...one with all of life. I can still feel it all in my cells, reverberating as I close my eyes and remember the pure joy of those special week long retreats.
Pamela,
your experience sounds simply beautiful. There really is nothing like moving water, so still and clear. Thank you for sharing this!
Mermaid,
your watery experience is simply beautiful too. I like what you say about no one being able to tell you how to relate to it and yourself. A lovely feeling...
Laura,
Your experience sounds marvelous. The voices and body prayers must reverberate on in all of you who were there. Powerful!
Although I never thought of it as a "spiritual" adventure until I read this post, I visit the Jersey shore a lot in the summer. Being near the ocean, listening to the waves, and looking out at the horizon as well as splashing through the waves is fun and spiritual!
Elena, I am with you that the ocean and the shore are sacred gifts! They open us up to so much...perhaps it is the waves that do it. :-)
